Hannu Hautala Nature Photography Centre
September 13, 2024 – January 11, 2025
Wheelchair accessible
Opening ceremony: September 13, 2024 at 3:00 PM.
At the opening, non-fiction author Pekka Punkari will shed light on Teuvo Suominen’s multifaceted life work with his presentation For the Sake of Nature: The Testament of the Father of Environmental Protection.
In the exhibition Teuvo Suominen’s POWERFUL IMAGES, visitors gather around campfires and peer through the openings of portable tents to observe the state of nature and, through a microscope, explore the world of organisms through the eyes of a chemist-biologist.
The exhibition tells the story of nature conservation in Finland and globally from the 1950s to the present day. What has happened to birds of prey? Will large predators be given the right to live? Will ancient forests stand or fall? Will the waters continue to flow? Do nature’s creatures, including humans, have a place? Will the loss of biodiversity be halted?
The exhibition was created from images donated to the Finnish Museum of Photography, initiated by the Eminentia grant awarded to Teuvo Suominen by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. The exhibition has previously been displayed at the Natural History Museum (LUOMUS) and the Fyyri Library in Kirkkonummi. It is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s Uusimaa Fund, the Finnish Nature Conservation Foundation, and Finnfoto.
